The City of Charlottetown recognized the importance of a healthy environment for the betterment of residents and merchants of Charlottetown, and has set one of their goals to better focus on Urban Beautification and Forestry initiatives. This Department of Urban Beautification and Forestry is a result of that initiative and is under the direction of Donna Waddell, Director of Corporate Services.
The following Terms of Reference apply:
To liaise with the Old Protestant Burial Grounds Committee To liaise with the Urban Beautification and Forestry Advisory Board To develop plans and implement a City Beautification and Forestry Program To be responsible for grass cutting, flowers, street furniture, tree maintenance and planting on city property excluding sports fields and trails To maintain the grass, flower beds and trees in the Old Protestant Burial Grounds To liaise with the Make Our Hometown Beautiful Committee and the Communities in Bloom Committee To maintain and improve the city entrance and directional signage programs To develop and implement municipal activities relating to the importance and recognition of Arbor Day
The following initiatives continue for the City of Charlottetown:
Improvements to the Downtown Lighting Program with old-fashioned lanterns being installed on selected locations on University Ave., and Queen St. The Tree Maintenance and Pruning Program continued on public property Construction annually of new pressure treated wooden recycling units for distribution in the downtown core City Entrance signs at all points of the City of Charlottetown access were erected. As well work continued to upgrade Neighborhood Community Signs The Grass Cutting initiative has upgraded existing equipment to become more efficient in time management, quality of work and cost saving The City continues to offer the Memorial Street Bench Dedication and the Memorial Tree/Shrub Programs. The City continues to appreciate receiving comments and suggestions for the Urban Beautification & Forestry Advisory Board to consider as new projects or initiatives
