Building Inspections
Building inspections form a part of the Planning & Development Department and are mandated to enforce the requirements of the Building Code Bylaw. Our scope of work includes such things as plans examinations, building inspections and miscellaneous site assessments to ensure compliance with applicable Building Codes and the Zoning and Development Bylaw.
In the review of development applications, we liaise closely with the Fire Inspector’s office who administers the Life Safety Code as it applies to existing structures within the City.
We, in the Inspection Department, are very concerned with the life safety not only on and around building sites, but with respect to neglected and/or deteriorating structures that could pose a danger to the public. In this regard, we assist the Bylaw Enforcement Officer in assessing the condition and potential dangers posed by deteriorated structures.
So, if you are planning any type of project, no matter how large or small, give us a call. We will gladly lend any assistance within our realm of experience as well as assist you through the permit application process and advise when it is necessary to hire a professional (i.e. Architect, Engineer) to develop plans for your project.
