The City of Charlottetown is pleased to be hosting the Arts and Culture Awards as part of the Natal Day celebrations held in June.
The Arts and Culture Awards are held in Charlottetown every two years and awards are presented in the following categories: Emerging Artist, Artistic Excellence, Lifetime Achievement, Culture Industry and Cultural Event. The awards were designed to honour those who make a substantial contribution to the arts and cultural sector in Charlottetown.
The awards ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10, in the Art Gallery at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. This event is free and open to the public.
The selection of winners will be determined by an independent panel appointed by, but separate from, the Charlottetown Arts Advisory Board. The panel is chaired by one (non-voting) member of the Arts Advisory Board.
The Charlottetown Arts Advisory Board oversees the administration of the awards. The board members are: Mark Sandiford, Chair; John Morris; Maria Driscoll; Claire Nantes; Sharon Larter and Barb Groome Wynne.
Each award winner will receive a one-of-a-kind award created by Lenny Gallant, owner of Birdmouse. Award recipients in each category, aside from the Lifetime Achievement Award, will also receive a cash prize.
