The City of Charlottetown is pleased to announce the schedule for the 3rd Annual Charlottetown Garden Days as part of the National Garden Days held in June.
Charlottetown Garden Days celebrates the role of gardening in our communities and in our lives for people of all ages. The events will take place from June 10 to 17.
"The City is just beginning to bloom and we invite residents to come and take part in the exciting events and learn some tips on home gardening techniques," said Mayor Clifford Lee. "In addition to the Garden Days schedule, residents are encouraged to enter the Make our Hometown Beautiful contest to showcase the beautification work done in the community. There are so many beautiful outdoor spaces in our city that are hidden gems and deserve to be recognized."
Garden Days will feature family friendly informational workshops on xeriscaping, fairy gardens, vegetables and pollinator gardens. A new addition this year is a presentation and discussion about living walls, hosted at Upstreet Brewery by Shaman Ferraro. The schedule also includes a special garden themed painting with East Coast Art Party (pre-registration is required). Garden Days will also include the annual Barrel planting competition with Charlottetown City Councillors, City Hall staff and local businesses. All events and workshops are free of charge, with the exception of the East Coast Art Party activity, and are open to the public.
"As a member on the National Garden Days Committee I am very proud of the City of Charlottetown for enthusiastically embracing Garden Days - Canada's annual celebration of gardens and garden experiences," said Executive Assistant to Mayor and Council, Karen Lavers. "This celebration aims to engage community in raising the profile and diversity of our gardening experiences, to encourage participation from residents and to provide positive and fun learning opportunities that will contribute to our collective environmental and beautification efforts."
