The Prince Edward Island Marathon Weekend takes place Friday, October 13 to Sunday October 15, 2017. The Marathon brings over 2,500 participants to PEI from all over the globe taking part in the running/walking events.
Residents and visitors can experience some traffic delays across PEI on Sunday, October 17, due to the number of participants on the highways, for their safety.
Please note there will be one-way traffic (eastbound) only from the Brackley entrance to the Dalvay entrance of the National Park from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 10:00 a.m. Full road closures will be in effect on Sherwood Road between Brackley Point Road and Route #2, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on University Avenue between Kirkwood Avenue and Grafton Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Travelers should also note that Grafton Street from Queen Street to Church Street, and Great George Street from Kent to Grafton Street, will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to host the finish area and once again to ensure the safety of all participants.
There will be no parking permitted on Great George Street from Kent Street to Grafton Street, as well as Prince Street, from Euston Street to King Street, from 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 until approximately 3 p.m. (or when the event ends) on Sunday, October 15.
From 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 until approximately 3 p.m. (or when the event ends) on Sunday, October 15, there will be no parking on the following street sections:
• Great George Street from Fitzroy to Kent Street
• Grafton Street from Great George Street to Queen Street
From 4 a.m. (midnight) on Saturday, October 14 until approximately 3 p.m. (or when the event ends) on Sunday, October 15, there will be no parking on the following street sections:
• University Avenue from Kirkwood Drive to Euston Street
• Great George from Euston Street to Grafton Street
The following roads will be closed from approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 until 3 p.m. (or when the event ends) on Sunday, October 15:
• Grafton Street from Church Street to Queen Street
• Great George Street from Euston Street to Grafton Street
University Avenue, from Kirkwood Drive to Euston Street, will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 until the event is over.
Spectators are encouraged to come down to the finish line on the corner of University Ave. and Grafton St. to cheer on all participants from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Public looking to access the Charlottetown Airport from the Malpeque Road are encouraged to use Superior Crescent or the Arterial Highway instead of the Sherwood Road as a detour route during the road closures in this area.
