The City of Charlottetown’s Parks and Recreation Department has just completed plantings in the new veggie planters at Orlebar Park.

The new boxes have a large variety of fresh veggies such as lettuce, kale, carrots, beet greens, cabbage, radishes, eggplant, mint, oregano, parsley, chives and more. Parks and Recreation horticulture staff will be responsible for watering and maintaining the plants. Once the plants have germinated, residents are encouraged to come and harvest from the public planters.

"This concept has worked extremely well in Victoria Park and we are so excited to see it expand to other local parks," said Councillor Mitchell Tweel, Chair of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee. "These public veggie planters are for all residents to enjoy and we encourage the community The community is invited to plant, help maintain and to harvest throughout the season. help maintain and harvest the vegetables throughout the season."

Public veggie planters are also available for harvesting in Victoria Park, next to the City Ball Diamond.
