The three-day Symposium & Awards will be held from March 4th - 6th in Historic Downtown Charlottetown at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel, bringing together hundreds of people from across the country to celebrate
the WinterLights Celebrations program.
Charlottetown has been an enthusiastic participant in the program for the past several years, having won numerous national awards in various competition categories. Most recently, Charlottetown participated in the non-competitive Circle of Excellence category.
The Circle of Excellence category is the most prestigious level to which a community can participate in within the WinterLights Celebrations program. In order to reach the Circle of Excellence category, a community must first win in their population category, then win the Winners Circle category, before entering into the Circle of Excellence. Charlottetown has excelled in every category it has participated in and has attained the highest level of success possible.
WinterLights Celebrations is a national competition that promotes the involvement of the whole community – citizens, volunteers, municipal government, service organizations, industry and commerce – and it is evaluated in the following areas; Visual Presentation, Winter Pleasures, Festive Season Celebrations, Goodwill Programs, and Tourism & Promotion. WinterLights Celebrations encourages all Canadians to join in their local community events and activities, and to experience the beauty and thrill of winter.
“It is an honour for Charlottetown to have been awarded the rights to host the 2010 WinterLights Celebrations Symposium & Awards,” said Mayor Lee. “The WinterLights Celebrations program is a wonderful program to participate in as it is truly reflective of our entire community, its people and partnerships. In hosting the 2010 Symposium & Awards we have the opportunity to share this experience with the nation,” added Mayor Lee.
WinterLights judges, Lisa Tompkins and Ann Carrière, were in Charlottetown recently evaluating the city and all it has to offer as part of the 2008-09 program.
