Signature Events

The City of Charlottetown's annual Wintertide Holiday Festival is a collection of the many seasonal celebrations, activities and events taking place from November 18, 2016 to January 1, 2017.

The Wintertide Holiday Festival also adds spirit and sparkle to Charlottetown's nighttime sky.

The 2016-17 edition of the Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events is a collection of the many seasonal events and activities being coordinated by the City of Charlottetown, community organizations, groups and residents for all to enjoy!

Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events

Seasonal celebrations, activities, events, goodwill giving and community support programs listed in the Wintertide Holiday Festival Calendar of Events are but a highlight of some of the scheduled programming taking place in the city over the next several weeks and is as of November 18.

Wintertide Opening Ceremony & Tree Lighting (Friday, November 18)

Discover the magic of the holiday season with the Wintertide Opening Ceremony and Tree Lighting Friday, November 18!

Festivities begin at 6:15 p.m. at Province House - Grafton Street entrance - where you'll receive your candle for the Candlelight Walk to the Confederation Centre Upper Plaza for the Christmas tree illumination at 6:30 p.m.

Join family and friends as we usher in the holiday season in Historic Downtown Charlottetown with special guest Father Christmas and the Confederation Centre Youth Choir. Don't miss this magical and festive evening!

Charlottetown Christmas Parade (Saturday, November 26)

Santa Claus will be leaving his busy elves in the North Pole and landing in the Capital City on Saturday, November 26 for the annual Charlottetown Christmas Parade.

The parade will begin at the UPEI entrance on University Avenue at 5 p.m., continue down University Avenue to Grafton Street, take a right on Grafton, proceed to West Street and end at the Provincial Government Buildings parking lot. The public is welcome to line the route to enjoy the seasonal music, sparkling lights and Christmas spirit!

Non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Food Bank throughout the parade. Children are encouraged to bring their letters for Santa as Canada Post employees will be collecting them along the parade route.

The parade is a fun-filled evening event with festive lights and music. The Charlottetown Parade Committee accepts the first 100 entries that meet the requirements. There is no entry fee. The deadline for applications is Monday, November 21. To download a PDF application form click here.

A John Gracie Christmas (Friday, December 2 at 7:00pm)

A John Gracie Christmas is an annual Christmas concert featuring ECMA artist John Gracie. It's a magical evening of classic Christmas songs taking place Friday, December 2 at Trinity United Church-Charlottetown.

Tickets are FREE to the public and will be made available on Saturday, November 19 at the Eastlink Centre 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (or until tickets are gone). * Limit of 4 tickets per person

A Christmas to Remember (Saturday, December 3 at 7:00pm

A Christmas to Remember features all of the best popular Christmas and holiday music performed by some of PEI's finest singers and artists and the reading of well-known Island Christmas stories. This holiday performance is taking place Saturday, December 3 at Trinity United Church-Charlottetown.

Victorian Christmas Weekend (Friday, December 2 - Sunday, December 4)

Step back in time and immerse yourself in a storybook Christmas setting during Charlottetown's Victorian Christmas Weekend. Highlights of the Weekend include a Victorian Christmas Market, free horse and wagon rides, roaming Christmas carollers, classic Christmas movies at City Cinema, Breakfast with Santa, a warm-up station at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, a Christmas tree garden, visit with Santa at the Confederation Court Mall, live outdoor music and much more.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest (Registration deadline - Monday, December 5)

Charlottetown residents are invited to participate in the holiday season and share in the magical spirit with your neighbours and family by decorating the outside of your home!

Residents interested in participating in the Wintertide Holiday Home Decorating Contest must register by 12 p.m. on Monday, December 5. Judging will take place the evening of Monday, December 12 (weather permitting).

Capital New Year - First Night 150 (Saturday, December 31)

The free, family friendly event, Capital New Year - First Night 150, will take place on Great George Street with Province House as the backdrop, where the Fathers of Confederation first arrived and conceived the idea of Canada as a nation. The celebration will include stage performances, two pyrotechnic displays and indoor and outdoor entertainment.

The evening will start with family-focused activities from 5:30 p.m. until approximately 7:45 p.m., but the party will continue until midnight with more adult oriented entertainment and a unique pyrotechnic show to help ring in the New Year.
